Life#
Born in Leskovik in 1885/86 (AH 1303), İhsan Niyazi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a policeman (polis). İhsan Niyazi had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 17, in 1903/04, İhsan Niyazi began work in Leskovik, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1905/06 to 1908/09 places İhsan Niyazi in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Neapoli (Nasliç).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 250 kuruş a month in 1905/06, as Muhabere Memuru in Neapoli, when 14 per cent of paid officials earned less. Over four years the salaries add up to 12,000 kuruş, 63 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned. The final annual entry is for 1908/09.
