Life

Born in Leskovik in 1884/85 (AH 1302), Nevruz Nuri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a court official (mahkeme memuru). Nevruz Nuri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Turkish and spoke Greek (Rum).

At about 17, in 1902/03, Nevruz Nuri began work in Konitsa (Koniçe), with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1906/07 and 1907/08, place Nevruz Nuri in Štip (İştip) as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1906/07, as Muhabere Memuru in Štip, when one in ten paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
