Life#
Mehmet Sabri Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1868/69 (AH 1285), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Mehmet Sabri began work in Istanbul in 1884/85, at about 16, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 50 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1888/89 to 1905/06 places Mehmet Sabri in the same office, accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
