Life#
İbrahim Hakkı Efendi was born in Pleven (Plevne) in 1837/38 (AH 1253), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
İbrahim Hakkı began work in Pleven in 1858/59, at about 21, paid from the start, on 350 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1858/59, with İbrahim Hakkı as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Pleven, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1865/66. Next came Shumen (Şumnu) from 1866 to 1868, then Saimbeyli (Haçin) from 1868 to 1877. İbrahim Hakkı then moved to Shumen, Balchik (Balçık), Melnik (Menlik), Erciş and Hakkâri, five places in six years, with a rise to a post in the clerkship of the chief director's office (Başmüdür Kitabeti) in 1881/82, then Saray (Mahmudiye) from 1882 to 1887, with a rise to director of the second grade (2. Müdür) in 1883/84. The last posts were in Doğubayazıt (Bayezid) from 1887 to 1893. Few officials served in as many places; fewer than 6 per cent of the 5,200 officials with a place of service did.
Pay rose from 350 kuruş a month in 1858/59 to a peak of 1,000 in 1887/88, as 2. Müdür in Doğubayazıt, when 83 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1892/93; the list of 1893/94 (AH 1311) gives the status word Vefat (death).
