Life#
Mehmet Naim Efendi was born in Gjirokastër (Ergiri) in 1876/77 (AH 1293) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mehmet Naim also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Delvine in 1893/94, at about 17, paid from the start, on 150 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1893/94, places Mehmet Naim in Delvine as a deliverer (Müvezzi). Next came a return to Gjirokastër, the birthplace, from 1894 to 1902, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in 1896/97 and to acting director (Müdür Vekili) in 1901/02. The last posts were in Tepelenë (Tepedelen) from 1902 to 1910.
The salary went from 150 kuruş a month in 1893/94 to 600 in 1901/02, the peak, as Müdür Vekili in Gjirokastër, when two in three paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1909/10.
