Life#
Born in Gjirokastër (Ergiri) in 1878 (AH 1295) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Hüsrev Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Gjirokastër in 1896/97, at about 18, paid from the start, on 140 kuruş a month. From 1896/97 to 1905/06 every annual entry places Hüsrev in Gjirokastër, the birthplace, first as an official for written correspondence (Muharrerat Memuru), from 1901/02 as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
Pay rose from 140 kuruş a month in 1896/97 to a peak of 250 in 1901/02, as Muhabere Memuru in Gjirokastër, when 14 per cent of paid officials earned less.
