Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1884/85 (AH 1302), Ahmet Kazım Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Kazım also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1899/1900, at about 15, with half a year without pay as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1899/1900, with Ahmet Kazım in the control office (Kontrol Kalemi) in Istanbul, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1905/06. The last post was in Ereğli in 1906/07, with a rise to communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
