Life#
Yosef Efendi was born in Lubnan in 1879/80 (AH 1297) into the Maronite Christian (Maruni) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took four years, at the Basilik Mektebi; Yosef also wrote Arabic, French and Turkish.
The personnel record dates the first work in Acre (Akka) to 1896/97, after the first annual entry, paid from the start, on 145 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1895/96, with Yosef as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Acre, where the entries run to 1908/09. The last posts were in Latakia (Lazkiye) from 1909 to 1911.
