Life#
Born in Adana in 1879/80 (AH 1297) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mehmet Nuri Efendi was the child of a chief clerk (başkatip). Mehmet Nuri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 15, in 1894/95, Mehmet Nuri began work in Adana, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1895/96, with Mehmet Nuri as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Mersin. The last posts were in Adana, the birthplace, from 1896 to 1902.
