Life#
İbrahim Mazlum Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1875/76 (AH 1292), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1891/92, at about 16, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 50 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1892/93, to 1905/06, every annual entry places İbrahim Mazlum in the same office, accounts office (Muhasebe Kalemi), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
The salary went from 50 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to 400 in 1904/05, the peak, in the Muhasebe Kalemi in Istanbul, when 38 per cent of paid officials earned less.
