Life#
Hakkı Efendi was born in Kırklareli in 1874/75 (AH 1291), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Hakkı also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Hakkı began work in Edirne in 1891/92, at about 17, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1891/92, with Hakkı as Musillik in Marmara Ereğlisi, where the entries run to 1895/96. Next came Çorlu, Erciş, Hınıs and Eleşkirt, four places in ten years, with a rise to postal official (Posta Memuru) in 1901/02 and to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1904/05. The last post was in Durak in 1906/07.
The salary went from 200 kuruş a month in 1891/92 to 600 in 1904/05, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Hınıs, when two in three paid officials earned less. That salary was paid for a single year, and the next list gives 500 kuruş. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
