Life#
Born in Mecca (Mekke) in 1885/86 (AH 1303) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Abdülkadir Efendi was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi); Abdülkadir also wrote Arabic as well as Turkish.
At about 18, in 1904/05, Abdülkadir began work in Mecca, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1906/07 and 1907/08, place Abdülkadir in Mecca, the birthplace, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 300 kuruş a month in 1906/07, as Muhabere Memuru in Mecca, when one in four paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
