Life#
Born in Giresun in 1883/84 (AH 1301) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Salih Sıdkı Efendi was the child of an official (memur). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Salih Sıdkı also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 18, in 1902/03, Salih Sıdkı began work in Eskişehir, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1903/04, with Salih Sıdkı as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti) in Yozgat. The last posts were in Eskişehir in 1905/06 and Küplü in 1906/07.
Pay rose from 400 kuruş a month in 1903/04 to a peak of 500 in 1906/07, as Muhabere Memuru in Küplü, when 51 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
