Life#
Ahmet İhsan Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1883/84 (AH 1301) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Mabeyni Humayun Hademesi". Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet İhsan also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 15, in 1898/99, Ahmet İhsan began work in Istanbul, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1901/02 and 1902/03, place Ahmet İhsan in Istanbul, the birthplace, as an official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 100 kuruş a month in 1901/02, as Mersule Memuru in Istanbul, when 1 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1902/03.
