Life

Born in Istanbul in 1883/84 (AH 1301), Ahmet Nuri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Ahmet Nuri also attended the telegraph school, wrote French, Persian and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

At about 21, in 1905/06, Ahmet Nuri began work in Sirkeci, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. Both annual entries, for 1905/06 and 1906/07, place Ahmet Nuri in Sirkeci as a postal official (Posta Memuru).

Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1905/06 to a peak of 340 in 1906/07, as Posta Memuru in Sirkeci, when 35 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
