Life#
Hüseyin Fahri Efendi was born in Lovech (Lofça) in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a clerk (ketebe). Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Hüseyin Fahri also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Hüseyin Fahri began work in Istanbul in 1896/97, at about 23, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Hüseyin Fahri in Beyoğlu as Huk Memuru. The last posts were in Sirkeci from 1898 to 1907, first as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), from 1900/01 in the money order office (Havalename Kalemi).
