Life#
Abdülaziz Efendi was born in Ioannina (Yanya) in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Abdülaziz also attended the telegraph school, wrote French, Greek (Rum) and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1898/99, at about 25, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1898/99, places Abdülaziz in Istanbul as a postal official (Posta Memuru), where the entries run to 1900/01. From 1901 to 1904 the annual entries place Abdülaziz in Sirkeci.
The salary went from 200 kuruş a month in 1898/99 to 450 in 1903/04, the peak, as Posta Memuru in Sirkeci, when 47 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1903/04.
