Life#
Ali Haydar Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1872/73 (AH 1289) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
Ali Haydar began work in Göynük in 1893/94, at about 21, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1893/94, with Ali Haydar as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Göynük. Next came Erzurum from 1894 to 1896. The last posts were in Istanbul, the birthplace, from 1896 to 1904, first as a postal official (Posta Memuru), from 1901/02 as a letters official (Mekâtib Memuru).
