Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1873/74 (AH 1290), Abdürrahim Haşim Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a clerk (ketebe). Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Abdürrahim Haşim also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Abdürrahim Haşim began work in Istanbul in 1892/93, at about 19, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1892/93, places Abdürrahim Haşim in Sirkeci as a postal official (Posta Memuru). The last posts were in Istanbul, the birthplace, from 1894 to 1899, with a rise to travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur).
