Life#
Born in Nevşehir in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ahmet Hulusi Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Ahmet Hulusi began work in Nevşehir in 1889/90, at about 16, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1892/93, with Ahmet Hulusi as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Chios (Sakız). Ahmet Hulusi then moved to Thessaloniki (Selanik) and Pristina (Priştine) from 1893 to 1897, then Kosova from 1897 to 1902. The last post was in Aksaray in 1902/03.
Pay rose from 400 kuruş a month in 1892/93 to a peak of 500 in 1897/98, as Muhabere Memuru in Kosova, when half the paid officials earned less. Over 11 years pay ended where it began, at 400 kuruş. The last annual entry is for 1902/03.
