Life#
Born in Nevşehir in 1875/76 (AH 1292), Ali Rıza Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Ali Rıza had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Nevşehir in 1890/91, at about 16, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1894/95, with Ali Rıza as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Nevşehir, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1904/05. In 1905/06 the lists place Ali Rıza in Al-Faw (Fav).
