Life#
Osman Şadi Efendi was born in Boyabat in 1872/73 (AH 1289), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Kaza Meclis Azasi". Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Osman Şadi also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1899/1900, at about 27, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. The first annual entry, for 1899/1900, places Osman Şadi in Istanbul as an official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru), where the entries run to 1904/05. The last posts were in Mabeyni humayun from 1905 to 1909, with a rise to a post in the Muduriyet Kitabeti.
The salary went from 400 kuruş a month in 1899/1900 to 1,000 in 1905/06, the peak, in the Muduriyet Kitabeti in Mabeyni humayun, when 86 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1908/09.
