Life#
Mustafa Neşet Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1873/74 (AH 1290) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a soldier (asker). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1895/96, at about 22, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1899/1900, to 1907/08, every annual entry places Mustafa Neşet in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
