Mehmet Mirat Efendi

Muslim (Müslüman). Born in Veles (Köprülü) in 1878/79 (AH 1296). On record 1897 to 1908, 11 annual entries.

Life

Born in Veles (Köprülü) in 1878/79 (AH 1296), Mehmet Mirat Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a medrese teacher (müderris). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).

Mehmet Mirat began work in Trabzon in 1897/98, at about 18, paid from the start, on 250 kuruş a month. The annual lists begin in 1897/98, with Mehmet Mirat as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Trabzon. Mehmet Mirat then moved to Strumica (Ustrumca), Tetovo (Kalkandelen), Mersin and Silifke, four places in six years. The last posts were in Mayadin (Meyadin) from 1905 to 1908.

Pay rose from 250 kuruş a month in 1897/98 to a peak of 800 in 1905/06, as Muhabere Memuru in Mayadin, when 78 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
