Life#
Abdülcabbar Efendi was born in Baghdad (Bağdat) in 1878/79 (AH 1296), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Abdülcabbar also wrote Arabic, French and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 19, in 1898/99, Abdülcabbar began work in Baghdad, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 210 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1904/05, to 1907/08, every annual entry places Abdülcabbar in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Baghdad, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 350 kuruş a month in 1904/05, as Muhabere Memuru in Baghdad, when one in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
