Life#
İhsan Salih Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); İhsan Salih also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
İhsan Salih began work in Istanbul in 1894/95, at about 17, with five unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1899/1900, to 1905/06, every annual entry places İhsan Salih in the same post, official for outgoing items (Mersule Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
