Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1878/79 (AH 1296), Ahmet Bahaettin Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took four years, at a school for young children (Sıbyan Mektebi).
At about 17, in 1896/97, Ahmet Bahaettin began work in Istanbul, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 30 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1899/1900, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Ahmet Bahaettin in the same post, official for incoming items (Mevrude Memuru), in Istanbul, the birthplace.
