Life#
Ahmet Necati Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a director (müdür). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Necati also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 22, in 1899/1900, Ahmet Necati began work in Burdur, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1903/04 to 1907/08 places Ahmet Necati in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Adana.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Muhabere Memuru in Adana, when 36 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
