Miltiyadi Efendi

Greek Orthodox Christian (Rum). Born in Istanbul (Dersaadet) in 1877/78 (AH 1294). On record 1903 to 1906, 3 annual entries.

Life

Born in Istanbul in 1877/78 (AH 1294), Miltiyadi Efendi came from the Greek Orthodox Christian (Rum) community. Schooling took four years, at a community school (Millet Mektebi); Miltiyadi also wrote French, Greek (Rum) and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

Miltiyadi began work in Istanbul in 1900/01, at about 23, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 500 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1903/04, to 1905/06, every annual entry places Miltiyadi in the same post, travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur), in Svilengrad (Cisr-i Mustafapaşa).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Seyyar Memur in Svilengrad, when 51 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
