Life#
Born in Bolu in 1888/89 (AH 1306), Mehmet Emin Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tax collector (tahsildar). Mehmet Emin had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Düzce in 1905/06, at about 16, paid from the start, on 300 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1909/10, to 1911, every annual entry places Mehmet Emin in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Kastamonu.
Pay rose from 300 kuruş a month in 1909/10 to a peak of 400 in 1911, as Muhabere Memuru in Kastamonu, when 29 per cent of paid officials earned less. In all, three years of salary come to 12,000 kuruş, 68 per cent of what an official on the median salary earned in those years. The final annual entry is for 1911.
