Life#
Born in Baghdad (Bağdat) in 1887/88 (AH 1305) into the Armenian Christian (Ermeni) community, this official was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). The official had seven years of schooling, at a community school (Millet Mektebi) and then a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and wrote Arabic, French and Turkish.
Work began in Bursa, paid from the start, on 175 kuruş a month. The records give first-work years from 1901 to 1907 (AH 1319 to 1324). The first annual entry, for 1906/07, places the official in Basra as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1910/11. In 1911 the lists place the official in Kastamonu.
The salary went from 175 kuruş a month in 1906/07 to 500 in 1911, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Kastamonu, when half the paid officials earned less.
