Life#
Born in Dobrich (Hacıoğlu Pazarcığı) in 1878 (AH 1295) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mustafa Remzi Efendi was the child of a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Mustafa Remzi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Mustafa Remzi began work in Gönen in 1894/95, at about 16, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1895/96, with Mustafa Remzi as a postal official (Posta Memuru) in Gaziantep (Antep). Next came İskenderun, Tetovo (Kalkandelen), Balıkesir and Zagor, four places in six years, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1900/01. The last post was in Çivril in 1902/03.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1895/96 to 500 in 1900/01, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Zagor, when 47 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1902/03.
