Life

İbrahim Niyazi Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1877/78 (AH 1294) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a clerk (ketebe). Schooling took seven years, at the Model of Progress School (Numune-i Terakki Mektebi); İbrahim Niyazi also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).

Work began in Istanbul in 1894/95, at about 17, with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 500 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1905/06 and 1906/07, place İbrahim Niyazi in Svilengrad (Cisr-i Mustafapaşa) as a travelling postal official (Seyyar Memur).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 500 kuruş a month in 1905/06, as Seyyar Memur in Svilengrad, when half the paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1906/07.
