Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1874/75 (AH 1291) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Hüseyin Tıynet Efendi was the child of a clerk (ketebe). Hüseyin Tıynet had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in İzmit in 1891/92, at about 17, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1895/96, places Hüseyin Tıynet in İzmit as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1898/99. Next came Karamürsel, Uzunköprü (Cisr-i Ergene), Kartal, Thessaloniki (Selanik) and Buyuk palaz, five places in seven years, with a rise to director of the third grade (3. Müdür) in 1904/05. In 1906/07 the lists place Hüseyin Tıynet in Sapanca.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1895/96 to 600 in 1904/05, the peak, as 3. Müdür in Buyuk palaz, when two in three paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1906/07.
