Life#
This official was born in Istanbul in 1885/86 (AH 1303), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, and the father's occupation was "Bashekim". Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; the official also attended the telegraph school, wrote Arabic, French and Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 15, in 1900/01, the official began work in Istanbul, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. From 1900/01 to 1904/05 every annual entry places the official in Istanbul, the birthplace, first in the documents office (Evrak Kalemi), from 1902/03 in the money order office (Havalename Kalemi).
