Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1883/84 (AH 1301), Mehmet Hayri Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father's occupation was "Yildiz Saray-i Humayunu tufekcilerinden". Mehmet Hayri had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), wrote French as well as Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 16, in 1899/1900, Mehmet Hayri began work in Istanbul, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 50 kuruş.
