Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1887/88 (AH 1305), Osep Kirkor Muradyan Efendi came from the Armenian Christian (Ermeni) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a French school (Fransız Mektebi); Osep Kirkor Muradyan also wrote Armenian, French and Turkish.
Work began in Beyoğlu in 1906/07, at about 18, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 150 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1907/08 and 1908/09, place Osep Kirkor Muradyan in Beyoğlu as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 150 kuruş a month in 1907/08, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Beyoğlu, when 12 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1908/09.
