Life#
Born in Istanbul in 1882/83 (AH 1300), Ahmet Fethi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a farmer (çiftçi). Schooling took 12 years, at Darüşşafaka, the school for orphans in Istanbul; Ahmet Fethi also attended the telegraph school, wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Ahmet Fethi began work in Beyoğlu in 1903/04, at about 20, paid from the start, on 400 kuruş a month. Every annual entry from 1903/04 to 1907/08 places Ahmet Fethi in the same post, official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti), in Beyoğlu.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 400 kuruş a month in 1903/04, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Beyoğlu, when 36 per cent of paid officials earned less. The final annual entry is for 1907/08.
