Life#
Born in Kavala in 1878/79 (AH 1296) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Hamid Hüsnü Efendi was the child of a director (müdür). Hamid Hüsnü had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), wrote French as well as Turkish, and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 21, in 1900/01, Hamid Hüsnü began work in Izmir (İzmir), with three unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1903/04 to 1907/08 places Hamid Hüsnü in the same post, official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti), in Izmir.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1903/04 to 380 in 1904/05, the peak, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Izmir, when 35 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1907/08.
