Life#
Ali Galip Efendi was born in Istanbul in 1861/62 (AH 1278), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
Work began in Istanbul in 1875/76, at about 14, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 100 kuruş. From 1876/77 to 1881/82 every annual entry places Ali Galip in Istanbul, the birthplace, first as an official (Memur), from 1880/81 in the Maas Kitabeti.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 100 kuruş a month in 1876/77, as Memur in Istanbul, when fewer than 1 per cent of paid officials earned less.
