Life#
Mehmet Nurettin Efendi was born in Lüleburgaz in 1833/34 (AH 1249), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took four years, at a primary school (İbtidai Mektebi).
Mehmet Nurettin began work in Lüleburgaz in 1867/68, at about 34, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 480 kuruş. Of the 5,128 officials whose age at first work is known, fewer than 2 per cent started at 34 or older. The first annual entry, for 1868/69, places Mehmet Nurettin in Vize as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1876/77. Next came Çorlu in 1878. The last posts were in Lüleburgaz, the birthplace, from 1878 to 1882.
