Life#
Hasan Basri Efendi was born in Makrikoy in 1882/83 (AH 1300) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a tradesman (esnaf). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Hasan Basri also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Istanbul in 1904/05, at about 21, paid from the start, on 100 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1904/05, to 1906/07, every annual entry places Hasan Basri in the same post, official of the union post (İttihat Posta Memuru), in Istanbul.
Pay rose from 100 kuruş a month in 1904/05 to a peak of 150 in 1906/07, as İttihat Posta Memuru in Istanbul, when 6 per cent of paid officials earned less.
