Life

Born in Manisa in 1882/83 (AH 1300) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Mehmet Muhyiddin Efendi was the child of a sheikh (şeyh). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).

Mehmet Muhyiddin began work in Istanbul in 1902/03, at about 19, with two unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 60 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1904/05 and 1905/06, place Mehmet Muhyiddin in Istanbul in the documents office (Evrak Kalemi).

The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 60 kuruş a month in 1904/05, in the Evrak Kalemi in Istanbul, when 1 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
