Life#
Born in Didymoteicho (Dimetoka) in 1878/79 (AH 1296), Ali Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a farmer (çiftçi). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ali also wrote French as well as Turkish and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Work began in Didymoteicho in 1906/07, at about 27, paid from the start, on 200 kuruş a month. From the first annual entry, for 1906/07, to 1908/09, every annual entry places Ali in the same post, transport official (Nakliye Memuru), in Didymoteicho, the birthplace.
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1906/07, as Nakliye Memuru in Didymoteicho, when one in ten paid officials earned less.
