Born in Didymoteicho (Dimetoka) in 1881/82 (AH 1299) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community, Ömer Lütfi Efendi was the child of a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). Ömer Lütfi had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
