Life#
Ahmet Memduh Efendi was born in Kastamonu in 1876/77 (AH 1293), into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Memduh also wrote French as well as Turkish.
Ahmet Memduh began work in Kastamonu in 1890/91, at about 15, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 400 kuruş. From the first annual entry, for 1894/95, to 1896/97, every annual entry places Ahmet Memduh in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Kastamonu, the birthplace.
