Life#
Born in Diyarbakır in 1876/77 (AH 1293), Ali Asım Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph director (telgraf müdürü). Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ali Asım also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 15, in 1890/91, Ali Asım began work in Niğde, with four unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 200 kuruş. Both annual entries, for 1894/95 and 1895/96, place Ali Asım in Niğde as an official for foreign communications (Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti).
The salary never rose above the first in the lists, 200 kuruş a month in 1894/95, as Muhaberat-ı Ecnebiye Memuriyeti in Niğde, when one in ten paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1895/96; the list of 1896/97 (AH 1314) gives the status word Vefat (death).
