Life#
Born in Diyarbakır in 1876/77 (AH 1293), ESAT EFENDİ came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community; the father was a telegraph official (telgraf memuru). ESAT had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi).
At about 22, in 1898/99, ESAT began work in Diyarbakır, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 250 kuruş. Every annual entry from 1899/1900 to 1905/06 places ESAT in the same post, communications official (Muhabere Memuru), in Diyarbakır, the birthplace.
