Life#
Ahmet Mithat Efendi was born in Diyarbakır in 1876/77 (AH 1293) into the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Schooling took seven years, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi); Ahmet Mithat also held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
Ahmet Mithat began work in Diyarbakır in 1890/91, at about 15, with six unpaid years as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The first annual entry, for 1896/97, places Ahmet Mithat in Diyarbakır, the birthplace, as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru), where the entries run to 1900/01. Next came Nusaybin in 1901/02, then a return to Diyarbakır from 1902 to 1906. The last post was in Badra (Bedre) in 1906/07.
