Life#
Born in Tokat in 1876/77 (AH 1293), Ahmet Hamdi Efendi came from the Muslim (Müslüman) community. Ahmet Hamdi had seven years of schooling, at a middle school (Rüşdiye Mektebi), and held a qualification (a diploma, certificate, training or decoration).
At about 18, in 1894/95, Ahmet Hamdi began work in Yozgat, with one unpaid year as a mülazım (apprentice) before a first salary of 300 kuruş. The annual lists begin in 1895/96, with Ahmet Hamdi as a communications official (Muhabere Memuru) in Tokat, the birthplace, where the entries run to 1900/01. Next came Malatya, Yozgat and Sivas from 1901 to 1905. The last post was in Kangal in 1905/06.
The salary went from 300 kuruş a month in 1895/96 to 380 in 1904/05, the peak, as Muhabere Memuru in Sivas, when 35 per cent of paid officials earned less. The last annual entry is for 1905/06.
